COLOMBO: All propaganda work for the Provincial Council election ends tomorrow midnight.

The Police jointly with the Armed Forces have beefed up security in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces as the top leaders of main political parties are to address final election rallies ahead of this deadline.

These political parties have intensified their campaigns in these provinces. The Elections Secretariat yesterday said all ballot papers will be cancelled and a fresh election will be held if any malpractice takes place in any polling booth.

According to the Elections Secretariat sources, the Elections Commissioner is empowered to hold a fresh election for the polling booth in question after an paper advertisement is published under the Provincial Councils Elections Act.
